IDB award for contribution to Women in development
Runa Khan, the Founder and Executive director of Friendship received Islamic Development Bank (IDB) award 2008 along with Saideh Ghods of Iran in recognition of their efforts to improve healthcare for women. Friendship, a non-profit volunteer organisation working to improve the health and socioeconomic condition of the poorest of the poor char people in Bangladesh. Friendship owns a floating hospital which provides mobile health units to the people of the Nomad Islands situated in north Bangladesh. The programme has served over 299708 beneficiaries up to May 2008. In 2006, Runa Khan also was involved in sending relief services to Pakistan earthquake victims.
