Since Bangladesh’s thousands of years old boat-building technologies have always been imparted orally, they will be lost with the demise of the last master boat-builders. In order to prevent this loss, Friendship has started to record the ancient technologies by employing the craftsmen to build miniature wooden sailing boats, with the same craftsmanship and attention paid to life-scale vessels. More than 100 different models have been manufactured over the last few years and thousands of years old traditions is being preserved.

These miniature boats are being built to preserve the different types of traditional sail boats of Bangladesh.  Through building them, master builders are able to teach new generation of workers their skills, and also preserve their traditional livelihoods.  These model boats are used for the travelling exhibitions but also sold, profit from which go back to the craftsmen.
