Sustainable Economic Development

Char dwellers are some of the most vulnerable people in Bangladesh.  Chars are unstable, with vast tracts of uncultivable land, average family size of eight people, an average income of Euro 0.75 per day per family.  To address the dire poverty situation in the chars and assist in the betterment of the peoples’ lives there, we have initiated an integrated project which enables them to organize, obtain functional literacy and civil education to heighten awareness of opportunities, savings opportunities to have seed money for the future, vocational training to gain alternative income generating skills, and interest-free loans for income generating initiatives.

The objective of the project is to increase income sources and opportunities, increase the productivity of existing and new initiatives for income generation, increase market access of the char dwellers, increase disaster preparedness to minimise loss of capital and resources.
The target population are the most vulnerable people, esp. the flood affected women of the char areas.
