Sustainable Income Generation
Most of the char dwellers are daily labourers and poor farmers who have no means to increase their income due to their limitations of monetary involvement and lack of resources. There are no social or economical structures, such as cooperatives, to align and redirect whatever income and capital or assets they are able to gather. Furthermore, due to acute poverty the impact of any intervention on education, health, housing, etc. remains far from satisfactory. Hence introduction of an integrated system for the rehabilitation of the char dwellers through sustainable income generation has become a crucial factor for any long term development initiative in these areas. In order to enable the char dwellers to improve their overall poverty situation Friendship commenced the Sustainable Income Generating Project taking into account the limitations and opportunities for working in this region. The key objective of the project is rehabilitation of the flood affected people through sustainable income generation activities which will ensure their livelihood and contribute in poverty alleviation. Moreover, the project aims to improve their income, build a capital of micro-savings to maintain the resources of char people, introduce micro-insurance and create a rolling fund.
